چکیده

Objective The purpose of these guidelines is to offer to the nuclear medicine team a framework that could prove helpful in daily practice. These guidelines contain information related to the indications, acquisition, processing and interpretation of F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FFDG PET) in paediatric oncology. The Oncology Committee of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM) has published excellent procedure guidelines on tumour imaging with F-FDG PET (Bombardieri et al., Eur J Nucl Med Mol Imaging 30:BP115–24, 2003 [2]. These guidelines, published by the EANM Paediatric Committee, do not intend to compete with the existing guidelines, but rather aim at providing additional information on issues particularly relevant to PET imaging of children with cancer. Conclusion The guidelines summarize the views of the Paediatric Committee of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine. They should be taken in the context of “good practice” of nuclear medicine and of any national rules, which may apply to nuclear medicine examinations. The recommendations of these guidelines cannot be applied to all patients in all practice settings. The guidelines should not be deemed Eur J Nucl Med Mol Imaging DOI 10.1007/s00259-008-0826-x Under the Auspices of the Paediatric Committee of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine. J. Factors influencing the pattern and intensity of myocardial 18F-FDG uptake in oncologic PET-CT imaging

Introduction:Myocardial 18F-FDG uptake is highly variable in oncologic whole body 18F-FDG PET/CT studies, ranging from quite intense to minimal distribution. Intense or heterogeneous myocardial 18F-FDG uptake is undesirable as it may interfere with the visual or quantitative evaluation of tumoral invasion and metastases in pericardium, myocardiu...

F-18 FDG PET/CT Imaging of Eccrine Sweat Gland Carcinoma of the Scrotum with Extensive Regional and Distant Metastases

Eccrine carcinoma is an extremely rare malignant skin cancer arising from eccrine sweat glands with a high metastatic potential. It mainly occurs in the elderly, with equal incidence in both sexes. It usually spreads to regional lymph nodes, with liver, lungs, and bones being the most common sites of distant metastasis. Because of tumor rarity, little is known about the value of F18- FDG PET/CT...

Diagnostic performance of 18F-FDG PET-CT in patients presenting with secondary neck nodes from an unknown primary

Introduction: Clinical examination and even anatomical imaging may fail to identify primary site of malignancy in patients presenting with cervical nodal metastasis. 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Computed Tomography (18F-FDG PET-CT) is known to overcome the limitations of anatomic imaging. Methods: Sixty-three (63) patient...

A Prospective Study Comparing Functional Imaging (18F-FDG PET) Versus Anatomical Imaging (Contrast Enhanced CT) in Dosimetric Planning for Non-small Cell Lung Cancer.

Objective(s): 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET-CT) is a well-used and established technique for lung cancer staging. Radiation therapy requires accurate target volume delineation, which is difficult in most cases due to coexisting atelectasis. The present study was performed to compare the 18F-FDG PET-CT with contrast enhanced computed tomogr...

The potential value of F-18 FDG PET in comparison to ct in early prediction of response to Imatinib (STI571) therapy in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors

Introduction: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract. GIST has been shown to over-express c-KIT (CD117), the receptor tyrosine kinase. Imatinib (STI571 or Glivec) is a new type of tyrosine kinase inhibitor that selectively inhibits various tyrosine kinases and has been successfully used to trea...

18F-FDG PET/CT in pachygyria during evaluation for seizure disorder

Pachygyria or incomplete lissencephaly is a developmental condition due to abnormal migration of neurons. The association of seizures in this condition warrants investigation like electroencephalogram (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). 18F-flurodeoxyglucose positron emission topography computed topography (18F-FDG PET/CT) has a potential role in commenting of wide...
